The Four Generation program began in our church soon after I was converted and baptized. What a joy! My four grandparents were still living and one great-grandmother, but I didn’t even know their first names – only grandma and grandpa. As I began asking them questions, they gave me a few old photos and lots of memories.
When I first met the LDS missionaries I asked them how they would answer an enigma that our church youth group had been discussing. The missionary’s answer was that we baptize for the dead – everyone has a chance to accept the gospel and receive necessary ordinances. I was comforted and converted.
I met and married a returned missionary and continued to work a bit on family history as the babies arrived. Five sons bless my life, but along the way I was divorced and raised them by myself. No longer able to be a stay-at-home mom, I managed eventually to build a career. For many years I was a technical writer and editor. For a handful of years, I had a second job teaching classes about how to use computer software – various programs. I’m a former member of the Society of Professional Communicators.
Now that I’m retired I’ve been enjoying research again, both for myself and for others. Family history is a wonderful work.
