Usually people start their search for a death date by trying to locate a death certificate.

Step 1

Step 2

For a "real" death record dated 1898-1905 you need to go to the page in the wiki pertaining to the COUNTY your ancestor died in, and then click Vital Records in the Table of Contents.

Pre ? or death certifdoesn't exist?  Many rec ypes give death INFORMATION, if "real" death records don't exist for the time period your ancestor died (aka pre ) or if you can't find a "real" death record go to  a discussion on  Utah record types have death INFORMATION. The Table of Contents on that page ranks the "best" death information record types first.
