Find parents and siblings for an English Ancestor before 1837

Individuals in England before 1837 are often found in christening records. Finding your ancestor in christening records to learn parents names and other clues for identifying the complete family.


Step 1: Find your ancestor of in one of these:

Step 2: Find your ancestor in a christening record

Step 3: Find a probate record for the ancestor's parents


The image of the will may not be tied to the online index. In this situation do a key word search in the Family History Library Catalog for the name of the probate court listed in the index. Most English probate records are available on microfilm through the Family History Library.
