I was just now looking at a page which is a mess because a large part of the text is obscured by an "adopt-a-page" graphic. I tried to edit the page to get rid of the problem, but couldn't find the appropriate option. I wanted to send a message to whoever has been working on the page, but couldn't figure out any way to do so. I wanted to leave a message associated with that page, but have no idea what is the proper or appropriate place or way to do that. There is evidently NO online help regarding this sort of thing or regarding sending and responding to messages in general.

Absolutely disgusted with Family Search Wiki

I used to extensively edit Wiki pages, but ran into too many problems and issues without any way to get any help. One primary issue has been that I've never figured out how to send messages or receive messages. That should be an extremely simple issue, but there are no instructions or there is no online help. I've noticed that a few messages have shown up below, and once or twice I responded here and got a response, but if I want to send a message outside of this page, such as in response to another page, I have no idea how to do it. I could contact Family Search, but I don't want to give them my phone number or talk with them on the phone.

I don't know if anyone will ever look at what I'm writing here, because I have no idea what this page is or what it's intended to do. I have searched a NUMBER of times through the online "help," but have found no help.

I once spent vast numbers of hours indexing Family Search records, but gave up when I could not get help when I switched to a Mac and when I saw the huge extent of errors in indexing that had been done by others. I was appalled at the unbelievably large number of obvious errors, so I quit.

Then I spent vast numbers of hours editing Family Search Wiki pages, but again gave up, disgusted, because I cannot get the help I need unless I give my phone number or talk to my "stake" administrator. (I'm not Mormon. Give me a break.)

Taking the "Stub" verbage off this article

Hi Melungeon,

We who are working in the Wiki FamilySearch  arena would like to use Coahoma County, Mississippi for a Featured Article on the Main Page of the Wiki. We cannot use it until the word "stub" is out of the heading; if you feel the article is complete enouogh for a Featured Article please consider removing the word "stub."

Thank you!

joy

In case anyone ever sees the following, I have no idea how to remove the stub reference or even how to respond to your message about doing so. I have been unable to find anything in the Family Search Wiki help pages about either.

The closest I could find to any explanation as to how to remove the reference to a stub is the following:

"Hidden categories are not hidden on category pages. You can view hidden categories on all pages by adding the following code to your monobook.css (or whatever skin you use):
<source lang="css">.catlinks-allhidden, .mw-hidden-cats-hidden { display: block; }</source>"

I have no idea what this is saying.

Stub removal

Helo Melungeon

We at the FamilySearch Wiki would like to use this article, Jefferson  County, Missouri, for a featured article on the Main Page of the Wiki. However, the word "stub" appears at the very top of the page. If you feel there is enough content to give researchers a good place to work from - we need YOU to remove the word "stub" from the article before we can feature it.  We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for all you have done for the FamilySearch Wiki effort.

Thank you for your consideration.

Bo  (gbo17)

I would remove it if I had any idea how to do so. That section of the page does not appear when I click on "edit page."
Melungeon,

To remove the stub template, when you edit the page, click on wikitext. Then look for {{stub}} and just delete that. That will take the stub template off the page.  If that doesn't work, please put another post here.Lynda 15:44, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
