Parent County

Victoria County was one of the original twenty-three counties of Texas, created on 17 March 1836 and organized in 1837 from and Old Mexican Municipality and named for the first settlement, Nuestra Senora Guadelupe de Jesus Victoria. County seat: Victoria. Colonization started in 1824 mainly by Mexican settlers. The first settlement was in 1720 which consisted of a Spanish mission and presidio.
