About Warren County

History

On March 24, 1803,  Warren County was created from Hamilton County. [1]

1 Jan 1815 -- Northwest corner of present day Warren gained from Butler County. [2]

Facts

  • The land in Warren County was originally surveyed under two different land survey systems
  • Clear Creek, Deerfield, Franklin, Turtlecreek, and Wayne townships were originally part of the Symmes Purchase (sometimes called the Miami River Survey or survey between the Miami Rivers). Townships are numbered east from the Miami River and ranges are numbered north from the Ohio River. Sections in the Miami River Survey were numbered according to Northwest Ordinance of 1785 and therefore vary from most other federal land states. Section 1 is located in the southeast corner of the township and the section numbers then proceed north to section 6. Section 7 is located to the west of section 1 and again proceeds north to section 12 and so forth.[3]
  • Hamilton, Harlan, Salem, and Washington townships were originally part of the Virginia Military District lands. As such, they do not use sections numbers according to the federal land system but use Military District Numbers instead.
