In this lesson, you will learn how to use different types of maps to help with research such as, road maps, land plats, informational maps, historical maps and more.
This lesson will help learn to verify your ancestor’s locality information by using maps and gazetteers. Once you have solid locality information you can use the Family History Library Catalog to locate records. The lesson utilizes two case studies to demonstrate the use of these tools. You will also find links to online resources included within the lesson.
In this presentation, you will learn to use Kevan Hansen’s “Map Guide to German Parish Registers” series to find the Lutheran or Catholic parish for a given town, determine whether or not the Family History Library has records for a given parish, and determine which parishes should be included in an area search.
