The class will first discuss historical events that affected South African research, then talk about the major record types that can assist you in finding your South African ancestors. Finally, the lesson will discuss naming patterns and peculiarities to researching in South Africa.
The second of a three-part series, this lesson will introduce you to the National Archives holdings of South Africa. The class will discuss the types of documents held at the National Archives, and explain how to access the online index to the archives, called NAAIRS. The lesson will explore the National Archives records held at the Family History Library, and how to access those records that are only available at the Archives in South Africa.
