This announcement is to inform the public that the new FamilySearch Film Ordering System is now available to the U.S. Northwest/West Area. This area is in addition to other areas that currently have access to the FamilySearch Film Ordering System.

FamilySearch continues to make great strides in making family history research easier by making it possible for you to order microfilms from the comfort and convenience of your own home. No longer will you have to wait for your next trip to a family history center to order a film. Nor will you have to travel to a family history center, hoping they have the film you want, only to discover it’s not there.

Ordering microfilms is as easy as ever.
1. Go to familysearch.org/films and sign into FamilySearch using the Sign In link located in the top right corner of the screen. If you do not have an account, clicking the Sign In link will help you register.
2. Locate the microfilm number(s) you want to order from the Family History Library Catalog located on FamilySearch.org. Note: Before ordering any film, check to see if the Family History Library Catalog has a digital copy available online.
3. Select your loan type, enter the microfilm number, and click Search. Repeat this step for each additional item.

The remaining areas will be released as soon as arrangements can be made. Below is a list of ecclesiastical areas of the Church were the Film Ordering System is available or will be soon.

  1. I will be looking forward to being able to use this system here in Aalborg, Denmark. Do anybody know when it will be working here? Thanks, Peter

  2. As a heavy user, Im grateful that films can now be requested without having to travel to the FHC just to make the request. Im not a member of LDS, but I understand the very practical reasons why the Family History Centers moved away from the old way of processing film requests. It was more costly, more time-consuming for users and volunteers, and less reliable. With on-line film requests made possible everywhere in the world, now FHC volunteers have more time to answer users questions. The World Wide Web can help most of us continue to work smarter rather than harder.

  3. The option to order online should be just that, an option. Most folks will probably use it, but Im sure there are a few who do not like to use credit cards online, or prefer not to order online for other reasons. Will FamilySearch reestablish an option to order at the Family History Centers for people who do not or cannot order online?

  4. Id like to try and answer questions that have been posted here in the comments. My apologies for not responding to these sooner. A lot of you request links from the Homepage. You will begin seeing better integration with Online Film Ordering and the rest of FamilySearch.org in the coming month or so. We also plan on placing an order link on each film page within the Catalog. Online Film Ordering will not allow you to order duplicate films. In order to look up the status of your order, click on My Account after signing in to FamilySearch and going to http//familysearch.org/films. Online Film Ordering is now available to everyone with in the United States as well as many areas internationally. Thanks to everyone for your comments as we try and watch this thread more closely. If I havent answered your question directly, please go to http//familysearch.org/films/help and click on the Users Guide or contact Support at 866-406-1830.

  8. Definitely need to a link on the home page With all the comments on this you should have done this by now. When searching users do not typically use a URL of .../anything/ , they typically go directly to the home page and then try to get to what theyre seeking from there.

  9. Like many others we need a link on familysearch.org to familysearch.org/films/ to order films. It could be a drop down box that is added to existing information. Or it could be an additional box for renting films on familysearch.org.

  10. I have ordered a film on line, however it took forever to figure out how to do this. Instructions are not very clear. Also received e-mail to check status of my order, logged in as suggested but found no link to the site.

  11. I am glad to be able to order films online and just placed an order for eight. However, your system is not recognizing films that I ordered previously and wish to renew. You require a renewal 10 days before the loan end date, and that means I need to renew NOW for films that are due on October 1. I would appreciate a reply indicating that this problem has been corrected. Also, I second the comments made earlier about the need for a clear link on your home page to the ordering site. I spent a long time figuring out where to order and how it worked. You should also have a list of prices on your site. With the differences in currency, you could easily make your price list searchable by having people enter their locations. Thank you

  12. I successfully ordered film 2 weeks ago. Today when I wanted to order more it will not recognize my user name and password. I carefully kept a record of this so know I am putting it in correctly. What to do? Do I have to change it all and start over?

  16. The link to online ordering is very hard to find unless one goes to all the help menus to find the special URL address. Could a link be put on the catalog main page or something of that nature so it could be more accessible? The new menu system seems to be very embeded.

  19. I only heard of family search a week ago from one of a relative I did not know. I have been searching for overe ten years for my fathers parents. I have subscribed to ancester.com with no luck. the moment I clicked on to family search.org within five minutes I found my great great grandmother and great grand father even though the names were spelled different I know I have the right people, family search even provided a Marrage certificate/Lic. I would suscribe to family search any day.

  21. I realize I must be in the minority, but I have never been to a family history center. Perhaps, for people like me, you could add step 4 and 5, i.e., When your film arrives, someone will contact you. You make an appointment to meet someone at your local fhc, who will help you view the ordered material. (Im making this up, I have no idea what happens after a film is ordered.) I have no idea what to expect. Also, when I ordered a film 2 days ago, I had to agree not to make any copies of the material. Really? It seems to me the whole point of finding a record is getting a copy of it I must have misunderstood, I hope.

  24. Where are all the pre 1535 records? Why is it that the persons date of birth is so difficult to see - why not put it next to the name in bold letters? FIRST Name, date of birth/baptism and place of birth THEN, All the rest of it. Its basic graphic design. Instead, the eye is drawn to the catalogue title. Thanks for a great site, though - now and before.
