EARLY PIONEER, PASSES
Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Jordan was the second daughter of David and Phebe Story. She was born in Illinois in 1850.
At the age of 14 years she came west. Her first marriage was to Mark Busey. To this union was born two sons: Wallace, of Alaska, and Henry, of Salem, Oregon.
Her second marriage was to Daniel Jordan. Mr. Jordan came to Klickitat county in 1871, and resided at Columbus until his death. He had been county commissioner one term in recent years. He passed away in 1905. To this union was born one daughter, Nettie, of Portland, Oregon.
In 1907 Mrs. Jordan moved to Seattle, where she lived continuously until her death, which occurred at the family home in Seattle, on July 7, 1927.
She adopted her nephew, Paul Lester Jordan , who made his home with her continuously until her death.
She was an outstanding Christian woman. She, with her husband, conducted a community Sunday school in the schoolhouse in Fruit Flat valley, in the Maryhill section, for the years of their residence there. She loved young people and always desired to keep and instruct them in the ways of righteousness.
Her faith in God remained throughout all the years until her bloodwashed spirit passed to be forever with the Lord.
She leaves to mourn her loss two sisters, Mrs. John Graham, of Lewiston, Idaho, and Mrs. Mary Jane Masters, of Goldendale, and her brother, David M Story, of Seattle.
Funeral services were conducted from the Church at Maryhill, Rev. D.A. Storey, of Goldendale, pastor of the M.E. church, on Saturday, July 9, with Funeral Director M.W. Chapman in charge.
Interment was in the Maryhill cemetery.
