Indexes death certificates of the New York City Department of Health.

Names are arranged by year, then month, then alphabetically within each year. 1888-1894 is alphabetical only by first letter of surname, then arranged by date. From 1898 through 1936 each borough is listed separately. Beginning with 1937 all the information from all boroughs is combined into one alphabetical listing, and stillbirths or fetal deaths are listed separately.

Death certificates for all the boroughs except Brooklyn are cataloged with New York (New York). Department of Health as the main entry with the following titles: Manhattan death certificates, 1866-1919; Bronx death certificates, 1898-1919; Queens death certificates, 1898-1919; Richmond death certificates, 1898-1920. The Brooklyn certificates are cataloged under: Brooklyn (New York). Department of Health. Brooklyn Borough death certificates, 1898-1920 and Death certificates, 1862-1897.

Includes age at time of death, date of death, and number of the death certificate.
