The Butler Society was founded in 1965 by George Butler, Hubert Butler, and Patrick " Paddy" Butler, 28th Lord Dunboyne in Kilkenny, Ireland. The Butler Rallies are held there every three years, at their headquarters at Kilkenny Castle. The Society has published the Journal of the Butler Society at variable intervals since 1968. Rallys are held every three years in Kilkenny, Ireland. Regional branches sprang up throughout the world to facilitate intercommunication, such as the Butler Society of North America (also known as North American Region), Butler Society of Australia, Butler Society of Canada, and others. After 1994, all regional branches were incorporated into one International Society. The Butler Society of North America was incorporated in the State of New York in 1978. It is also known as the Butler Society--North America, and the Butler Society North America Region. This branch publishes "The Butler Society : North American Region newsletter." Additonal information about the Butler Society is found on the web site.

This newsletter contains the current events, including announcements of new publications, of births, deaths, marriages, membership lists, obituaries, results of research projects, reunions, upcoming research projects, updates on the web site, and other items of interest to members of the Butler Society.
