John Mercer was born in about 1768, probably in Pennsylvania. His father is believed to be Amos Mercer. He settled in Middlesex County, Virginia in about 1787. He married Elizabeth Tool in 1789. They had three known children, John, James and Judy. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia.
