John Brown (b. ca. 1825) immigrated to Philadelphia from the Lowlands of Scotland about 1740. He married Sarah Sims and they migrated to South Carolina. In 1850, he migrated to Spartanburg where he stayed until he died. Descendants of their three daughters spread throughout the South before scattering westward.
