Samuel Richard Brough was born 20 August 1857 in Bethalto, Illinois. His parents were Thomas Brough and Jean Paterson. His family moved to Utah in 1864. He married Phoebe Adeline Cherry (1860-1935), daughter of John James Cherry and Laura Bratton, in 1881 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had eight children. He married Ann Eliza Carter (1866-1932), daughter of Samuel Carter and Sarah E, Davis, in 1886 in Logan, Utah. They had nine children. He died in 1947.
