Mark Shumate (ca.1760-1836), son of Daniel Shumate (d.1806), lived in Fauquier County, Virginia as early as 1788, moving later to Lee County, Virginia and then to Claiborne County, Tennessee. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and elsewhere.
