"Mr. Adams based his work on microfilmed records, through 1931, of the Post Office Department and much of the following information relates to post office names and changes. A preliminary typed list in 1958 contained 8,908 names. The list was later expanded to include place names mentioned in county histories, atlases, and newspapers, and was completed on May 12, 1961, with 13,948 entries."
