Nicholas Gentry and his brother, Samuel, immigrated from England to Virginia as part of the British army to aid in suppressing Bacon's Rebellion against Governor Berkeley in 1677. After their release from duty in 1684, they settled on land in what became New Kent County, Virginia. Descendants and relatives of Nicholas lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, California and elsewhere.
