Captain Nicholas Smith, of South Farnham Parish, Essex County, Virginia, was a son of Nichlas Smith of Petsworth Parish, Gloucester County, Virginia. He was appointed a justice between 1720 and 1730, and was a vestryman in 1739. He had a least two sons, Francis and Nicholas. Descendants lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and elsewhere.
