James Palmer (1763-1846) was born in King William County, Virginia, the son of Nicholas Palmer (1738-1791). He served with Virginia forces in the Revolutionary War. He married his half brother's widow, Ann Quarles Palmer, in 1788. They had ten children, 1788- 1810, all born in King William County. The family moved to Rockingham County, Virginia, in 1813. His grandson, George Rutledge Palmer (1834-1924), was born in Rockingham County, Virginia, the son of James Quarles Palmer (1810-1874) and Mary Ann Rutldge Palmer (1813-1893). His family migrated to Illinois in 1840 and settled in Fulton County. He married Adaline Haney (1842-1927), daughter of Rev. Richard Haney (1812-1900) and Adaline Murphy Haney (1819-1865), in 1860. They had seven children, 1861-1880. He was a minister at Macomb, Illinois. He died at Enterprise, Florida. Descendants listed lived in Illinois, Florida, and elsewhere.
