Thomas Edwards (1785-1853) was born in North Carolina, the son of Benjamin and Mary Edwards. He migrated to Georgia with his family as an infant. He probably married three times, the first to Martha Ward, ca. 1814. They had five children, 1815-1822, born in or near Taliferro County, Georgia. Descendants listed, chiefly children and grandchildren of their grandson, Thomas Edwards (1853- 1925) of Union Springs, Alabama, lived in Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and elsewhere.

Includes some other ancestral lines of Thomas Edwards (1853-1925), the author's grandfather, and her father, David Albert Dickson (1874-1953) of Alabama and Wharton, Texas. Ancestors include: Charles Morris (ca. 1712-1797) of Westmoreland County, Virginia -- Charles Collins, a Revolutionary War soldier of Virginia and North Carolina -- William Culpepper (d. ca. 1806) of Anson County, North Carolina, and Warren County, Georgia -- General David Dickson (1750-1830) of South Carolina and Georgia.
