The emigrant ancestor, Matthew Cockerham, immigrated to Norfolk, Virgi- nia ca. 1669 from England. He had three sons, Joseph, John and Henry, all of whom later show up as farmers in King Williams Co., Virginia. James Edwin Cockrum was born 1917 in Christopher, Franklin Co., Illi- nois. He married Phyllis Beaumont-Mills 1951 in Glen Ellyn, Ill. Phyllis Beaumont-Mills was born 1924 in Oak Park, California to Herbert Harry and Phyllis Burke Beaumont-Mills. Early ancestors lived in Virginia, Illinois, South Carolina, Kentucky and elsewhere.
