Lower Norfolk County was formed from in 1637 from New Norfolk County. It became extinct in 1691 when it was divided into the counties of Princess Anne and Norfolk. Norfolk County existed until 1963 when it became part of the independent city of Chesapeake.

Early volumes, 1637-1755, contain deeds, wills, inventories, court orders, appraisements, etc. Later volumes seem to contain only deeds.

Includes general index. Many volumes are also individually indexed.

Microfilm of original records at the Norfolk County Courthouse in Portsmouth, Virginia, and photostatic copies at the Virginia State Library in Richmond, Virginia.
