James Otey was in James City County, Virginia in 1677 (possibly born in Virginia, possibly an immigrant). He married Elizabeth Shurley (d.1681), and died in New Kent County, Virginia. Possibly the Otey surname was a variant spelling of Utey or Utie. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and elsewhere.
