William Basnett (d.1687) immigrated in 1637 from England to New Norfolk County, Virginia, and later acquired land in Lower Norfolk County, Virginia. He married Marthe Fennell and also acquired land in North Carolina. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and elsewhere.
