James Spencer was born ca. 1775 and lived in Norfolk, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Bolton sometime prior to the year 1800. They lived in Tennessee prior to their move to Scott Co., Virginia. James and Elizabeth were the parents of nine children. James died 11 December 1833 and was buried in Clinchport, Virginia. Descendants lived in Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and elsewhere.
