Family history and genealogical information beginning with William Elisha Tilghman (or Tillman) who was born in Somerset, Maryland. He married Charity Payton. They lived in Dodds, North Carolina and were the parents of seven children. William died in the year 1785 in Beaufort, South Carolina. Descendants lived in North Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, California and elsewhere.
