James Townsend (1786-1851) was the son of Major Townsend and Leah Selby, his wife. He married Catherine Davis (b.1789) in Worcester Co., Maryland. He was a descendant of John Townsend and Elizabeth Danford who were married at Hungars Parish, Northampton Co., VA. James and Catherine settled in Van Buren Twp., Clay County, Indiana.
