Manuscript/Manuscript on Film
English
Salt Lake City, Utah : Filmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 1952-1954
58 microfilm reels ; 35 mm.

Notes

Microfilm of original records in the Principal Probate Registry, Somerset House, London.

Published abstracts in: The publications of the Surrey Record Society, nos. 3, 7, 15, and 17.

Consists of act books listing acts of probate, registers into which a copy of the will was transcribed, and original wills. Original wills were filmed only to fill gaps in the registers.

The original wills are filed alphabetically for each year. Because the Julian calendar was in effect, wills from January to March are marked with the year previous to the year with which they are filed.

The indexes are chronological lists of names under the letter of the alphabet with which the surname begins.

For a printed index to wills for the years, 1660-1751, see: Webb, Cliff (Clifford R.). Archdeaconry court of Surrey index to the original wills, 1660-1751 (collated with ACT BOOKS and WILL REGISTERS), in the Author/Title catalog. It can also be found in the Locality catalog under: England, Surrey - Probate records - Indexes.
