Ulrich Wittig came from Saxony, Germany to Rockingham County, Virginia in about 1837. He was married to Catherine Baughman and they were the parents of seven children, three of whom had been born in Germany before their arrival in the United States. Ulrich bought property in what was then called Dovesville and became its first postmaster. Descendants live in Virginia and maryland.
