Notes

Metteneye/Matheny family in France, Belgium, England and the United States. Daniel Matheny was born ca. 1638 in Canterbury, Kent Co., England, and died in Stafford Co., Va. He married Sarah Wentworth (1648- 1779) in 1663. She was the daughter of Thomas Wentworth of Charles Co., Maryland. Daniel immigrated to Surry Co., Va. before 1663 with his brother Michael, and settled in Charles Co., Md. in 1665.
