Joseph Lafon (1797-1877), son of Thomas Lafon and Catherine Gayle, was born in Chesterfield County, Virginia. In 1827 he married Pauline B. Hatcher and by 1829 they had settled in Marion County, Missouri. Joseph was prominent in the community and served for a time as the mayor of Palmyra, Missouri. Joseph and Pauline were the parents of six children. Descendants live in Missouri and other parts of the United States.
