Chapter notes and references.

Includes index.

The subjects of this study are Thomas Wootten who in 1691/2 told the York County, Virginia County Court that he was about 40 years old; his proven and probable descendants in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee; and his almost certain father Richard Wooton of Warwick County, Virginia. The period covered by the study begins in 1638 with the arrival of Richard in Virginia and extends in some branches of the family up to the present time (1984).
