The Pittard family originally of England. Descendants of Samuel Pittard, Sr. (ca. 1710-1780), who was born in Somersetshire, England and died in Granville Co., N.C. He married ca. 1736 in Essex Co., Va., Mary Newton (ca. 1720-1785), who was born in Essex Co., Va. Descendants live in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and elsewhere.
