Chiefly, a record of 10 generations of descendants of James Blakely who was born in Ireland or Virginia and died about 1799. He married Rebecca about 1755. They had a son who was born on October 29, 1755 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He married Jane or Jean Shields on August 2, 1783 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Samuel Shields and unknown wife. They had eleven children. Descendants lived in Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky, Alabama and elsewhere.

Includes Blakely, Hale, Spencer, Thomas, Freeman and related families.
