Notes

Newit Vick (1766-1819) was born in Southampton County, Virginia to William and Martha Boykin Vick. He descended from Joseph Vick who settled in Virginia prior to 1675. By the 1760s he had moved to North Carolina. In 1791 he married Elizabeth Clark. They were the parents of thirteen children. In 1805 he moved to Mississippi. Between 1816 to 1819 Newit bought a large tract of land by the Mississippi River. Vicksburg was named after the Vick family. Descendants live throughout the United States.
