William Gilleland was born in about 1770 in Rockingham County, Virginia. He married Nancy Johnson and had four children. They moved to Tennessee in about 1796. William died in 1800. Nancy married Thomas Williams in 1802 and moved to Arkansas in 1803 and to Texas in 1817. Traces descendants to the fifth generation in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and elsewhere.
