Berryman Custer (1833-1925), son of Richard and Elizabeth Trumbo Custer, and Mary A. Shoemaker (1833-1906), daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Tusing Shemaker, were married in 1855 at Brooks Gap, Rockingham County, Virginia. They had ten children, 1856-1875. Berryman and Mary Custer are buried in the churchyard of the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, Fulks Run, Virginia. Descendants lived in Virginia and elsewhere.

Includes the Fawley, Funk, Hoover, Turner, and other related families.
