The Conwill family originated in Wales. Members of the Conwill family are said to have arrived in South Carolina in the 1760s. By 1770 they had settled in Newberry, South Carolina. Joseph Conwill (ca. 1760s-1817) was born in South Carolina and Sophia Goodwin. They were the parents of seven children. One of their children, Daniel G. Conwill (1790-1863), moved to Mississippi. Descendants live in Mississippi, Oklahoma and other parts of the United States.
