Notes

William Pointer was possibly born in North Carolina or Virginia. He and his wife, Caty, had ten children. His will, written in 1818 was proven in Barren County, Kentucky, in 1818. His son, James Pointer (ca. 1785-1853) married Ruth Alderson (ca. 1795-after 1842) in Barren County, Kentucky, in 1817. They had ten children, ca. 1819-ca. 1843. The family moved to Three Springs, Hart County, Kentucky, in 1826. He died in Hart County. Descendants listed, chiefly descendants of his son, William Harvin Poynter (1824-1909), lived in Kentucky, Missouri, and elsewhere. Most descendants spell their surname Poynter.
