James Keith Phillabaum was born in Dayton, Ohio, son of Lawson Sylvester Phillabaum and Nana Lou Wills. Ancestry is traced to Joehan Conrad Philipom, born ca. 1723 in Germany, died after 1768 in Pennsylvania; Frederick William Wills, born 1742 in Albemarle County, Virginia, died before 1796 in Clark County, Kentucky; William Rayburn (1725-1794) of Virginia; Jacob Stokley, born before 1765 in Virginia; Abraham Troxell (1771-1845) who died in Montgomery County, Ohio; and several other ancestral families.
