According to one author, John Hewitt was born between 1720 & 1730 & was the son of James Hewitt (1696-1758). James & his family moved from the York County, Virginia area in the 1740s to what would become Anson & Rowan counties, North Carolina. John had a wife named Mary & they had a son named John Jr.

Other more prominent family names found in the vol.: Weeks, Grant, Watson, Simmons, Cunningham, Hatsell & related families.
