Tucker Littleton was a historian author whose published works were "the culmination of 20 years of private research.... His research notes were meticulously inscribed on more than 20,000, four by six inch note cards, arranged alphabetically by date. After his untimely death...the state Division of Archives and History in Raleigh wisely committed the notes to microfilm to preserve them for future researchers.... The Coastal Genealogical Society , which Tucker helped establish in June of 1981...obtained the rights to publish the notes.... The entries have been left as they were written, as best determined by the transcribers."

"Tucker meticulously chronicled the history of coastal North Carolina and particularly Onslow County and the Swansboro area"--Foreword, v. 6.

The notes are in alphabetical order. Many of the notes are of genealogical importance.
