William Rivers (parents not given) was born ca. 1718 in England, married probably Temple Dempsey (parents not given) who was born ca. 1718. William died before 1790 in Chesterfield, Chesterfield Co., South Carolina. Temple died also in Chesterfield (no date given). They were the parents of four children. Their third child, Frederick Rivers, Sr. was born ca. 1739 in Chesterfield. He married Sarah Purvis, daughter of John Purvis and Sarah Johnston. She was born ca. 1745. Their descendants have lived in South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Virginia and elsewhere in the United States.
