Carl Erwin Nelson was born in Brigham City in 1903. He attend high school and college in Utah. In 1922, Carl became an LDS missionary and served in Canada. In 1924, Carl was released and later attended BYU and left for New York in 1928, and in 1941, he married Ernestine "Ernie" Neff . In 1943, he enlisted in the army and was stationed in Europe. In 1946 he was released from military service. The Nelsons had four children, all born in Washington D.C.: John Neff (b. 1949), Christopher Carl (b. 1949), Katherine May ( b. 1950), Cynthia Ann (b. 1950). The Nelsons lived in New Jersey for 16 years, moved to Michigan, and then to California two years later In 1971, Carl and Ernie moved to Bloomington, Utah, now a part of St. George. After Ernie's death in 1991, Carl married Mae Lucille Ear (b. 1919).

Vol. 3 contains the author's Nelson family history to Niels Nielsen (b. 1784 in Svenstrup, Denmark) and includes Craghead lines to Timothy Craghead (b. 1780-1810 of Franklin County, Virginia), Agee lines to James Mathieu (ca. 1610 of Loire River Valley in France), the Lygon family to George Lygon (b. 1315) and related families.
