James Thomas was possibly born in Newberry County, South Carolina in 1755-1774. He married twice and had children from each marriage. During the first marriage he lived in South Carolina. His wife's name was Sarah and their children were: Hennery, Nancy, Elbert, John, Rachel and Sarah. In 1809 he was living in Georgia with his second wife, Charity. Their children were: Catherine, Angelina, David and Zachariah.
