This collection contains images of probate case files from the Second District Court of Orleans Parish, Louisiana.
Between 1846 and 1880, New Orleans had a system of nine numbered district courts. Despite their name, these district courts weren't divided by geographical location; each district covered the entire Orleans Parish. After 1853, however, each court handled specific types of cases.
- First District Criminal
- Second District - Probate
- Third District - Family
- Fourth/Fifth District - Civil
- Sixth District - Cases pending in the City of Lafayette & Civil
- Seventh District - Family
- Eighth District - Disputed elections during Reconstruction
- Superior District - Taxation
