What is in This Collection?

This collection is an index & images to the enumeration of all persons in the Kingdom of Denmark on 1 February 1890. This index was created by MyHeritage from images provided by the National Archives of Denmark. The census was taken on the first of February and included Denmark, the Danish West Indies, the Faeroe Islands and Ladegård county in Schleswig-Holstein. This publication contains only Denmark.

The National Archives of Denmark has cataloged this census with Danmarks Statistik (Dennmark Statistical Office) as the responsible government office. More information about the records created by this office can be found at the National Archives of Denmark's online catalog, Daisy.

What Can These Records Tell Me?

This census contained three different schedules or lists. The main list is for persons present at their residence on the date of the enumeration. The second and third are abbreviated schedules for persons temporarily present or absent. The census forms contain the following information.

Kjønet - Mandkjøn (M) eller Kvindekjøn (K)	Sex - Male (M) or Female (F)
Alder - Alderen anføres med det fyldte Aar, men for Børn, der ikke have fyldt 1 Aar, anføres "Under 1 Aar" og fødselsdagen	Age - Age reported as at last birthday, but for children who have not reached their first birthday, reported as "under 1 year" and birth date
Ægteskabelig Stilling - Ugift (U), Gift (G), Enkemand eller Enke (E), Separeret (S), Fraskilt (F)	Marital Status - Unmarried (U), Married (G), Widower or widow (E), Separated (S), Divorced (F)
Trorssamfund	Religious affiliation
Fødested - nemlig Sognets og Amtets eller Kjøbstadens (eller handelspladsen) Navn og for de i Bilandene Fødte samt for Udlændinge Landet, hvor de ere fødte	Birthplace - namely the parish and county or city (our merchant city) name and for those in dependencies and foreigners where they were born.
Stilling i Familien - (Huusfader, Huusmoder, Børn, Tjenestetyende, Logerende, o.s.v.).	Position in the family (Head of house, housewife, children, servant, lodgers, etc.)
