What is in This Collection?

This collection is an index to Alumni Dublinenses, "a register of the students, graduates, professors, and provosts of Trinity College, in the University of Dublin" (from the title page). The editors were George Dames Burtchaell and Thomas Ulick Sadler, and it was published in London by Williams and Norgate, in 1924.

The information was take from the Admission Registers from 1637-1846, and also includes names of over 300 students from 1593-1637 for which time period no registers exists. This information was gathered by Mr. Burtchaell from patent rolls, ecclesiastical visitations, Fiants of Elizabeth and James I, calendars of state papers, lists of wards, chancery and exchequer inquisitions, funeral entries, and the earliest record of college accounts (from the Preface).

Please note the information contained in this collection ends the year after the founding of the Queen's University of Ireland. This University was founded to provide Catholics and Presbyterians access to higher education outside of the heavily Anglican Trinity College.
