Additional records and/or images may be added to this collection in the future.
What Can These Records Tell Me?
The following information may be found in these records:
- Person's name
- Event year
- Residence
- Record type: electoral roll, voter's list, etc.
The word "successive" written next to a person's residence indicates that within the last year the person has moved, and their qualification to vote has continued to their new residence. This notation is first found in registers from the 1850s.
Registers from 1918-1927 use the following codes:
- R – Residence qualification
- BP – Business premises qualification
- O – Occupational qualification
- HO – Qualification through husband's occupation
- NM – Naval or military voter
- A dash was used to indicate a person was ineligible to vote
Registers after 1928 include two codes next to an elector’s name. The first code indicates qualification to vote in parliamentary elections. The second code indicates qualification to vote in local elections.
- R – Residence qualification (man)
- Rw – Residence qualification (woman)
- B – Business premises qualification (man)
- Bw – Business premises qualification (woman)
- O – Occupational qualification (man)
